Boghall Parish Church - Activities & Organisations

The Kirk Session

The Kirk Session is made up of elders and is chaired by our Interim Moderator.  It governs the spir itual affairs of the church, looking after worship, membership, outreach and nurture amongst other things.  The Session meets 10 times a year, and anyone is welcome to visit our meetings - our next meeting is on Thursday 17 November at 8pm.

The Kirk Session has sub-groups that work on specialist areas, including Outreach, Nurture and Ecumenical Relations.  Find out more about them here:

Outreach Committee

The Outreach Committee presently has eight members all of whom are active in the work of the group.  Most of the outreach of Boghall Parish Church is done, not by the Committee, but by-members of the congregation in their daily lives. They do some of it in Church activities. Outreach Committee exists to support this and sometimes to initiate things themselves.

The members of the Congregation regularly:-

  • Support the Fair Trade stall on the last Sunday of the month
  • Donate money to several good causes including supporting a child in Dr Graham's Homes in Kalimpong,
  • Support the Church of Scotland HIV Programme
  • Collect for Christian Aid (almost £2,500 in 2010)
  • Give shoeboxes to the Blythswood Care Appeal
  • Send messages of support through Amnesty International
  • Deliver a Christmas card to almost every house in the Parish
  • Welcome Bathgate Academy pupils and serve hot chocolate once a week in the "Cosycoffeehouse"

Outreach Committee worked with other Bathgate Churches to arrange a repeat visit of the Bible World trailer to Bathgate from 5th to 9th September 2011 following the successful visit in May 2009. Over 400 young people visited.

The Congregation is keen that during the vacancy we should continue the good work which Rev.Dennis Rose was doing in school chaplaincy. An experienced Elder who has no professional links with the schools has been appointed to take a leading role in this.

Members of the Church also play an active and leading part in the following:

  • Bathgate Christian Bookshop
  • Bathgate Community Council
  • Bathgate Tenants and Residents Association
  • Bathgate Churches Together
  • The Boghall Drop-in Centre
